To the Class of 2020,
It is absolutely possible to make your senior year the best year of your life.
The problem is, someone began telling you a story, a lie; that because you don't get to walk your graduation and you are missing other activities, that it was going to be the worst year of your life.
What I know to be true is you have a choice.
You can choose to make this the best year of your life.
You can choose to focus on what you don't have or what you do have.
You can choose to waste the pain of the things you're missing out on, or you can choose to find the lessons, blessings and gifts in this situation.
One of the gifts I'm seeing for so many seniors are people reaching out. There are fun songs and videos recorded. Many of you have your pictures lining the road to your high school or put in your yard. So many are sending you extra love, care and encouragement. So many have gone the extra mile just for you.
I even posted my high school Sr. picture on FB to encourage you
And even if those things didn't happen for you, I invite you to glean from the encouragement of others.
When I look back on my graduation, I don't have those types of memories.
It was pretty humdrum - nothing special about it.
What I see happening for the class of 2020 is you are being set apart - you have a spotlight on you - you're getting extra attention. It's like nothing I've ever seen. That is such an amazing gift!
Just imagine what it's going to be like to attend your 10th high school reunion and the stories you're going to tell about what it was like during COVID-19. You’ll be able to pull up those videos and pictures and share.
just imagine what it's going to be like when you are at a class reunion, whether it's 10, 20, or 50 years and you talk about the way you thought outside the box and you put a new crease in your brain during that time. You’re going to share about how creative you were during that time and found the good.
Just imagine the lessons you share with others because of what you learned being self-quarantined.
Has it been what you expected? I’m sure it hasn’t.
I heard someone say that how we approach COVID-19 is how we will approach other things in our life.
I invite you to approach this time in your life, your senior year, whether it's high school or college, with an attitude of gratitude.
I invite you to approach it with a focus on the abundant love, care, and concern others have given you.
There's also a saying that there's nothing familiar on a new path. This is definitely an unfamiliar, new path.
The thing is, all of us, not just the class of 2020, the whole world, is on a new path.
I also know that God has already been on your path and He is asking you to trust Him.
We've all had to think outside the box, put that new crease in our brain - get creative
Oh, getting creative! Now that is a beautiful gift in this situation.
How will you get creative with your senior year?
How will you get creative with this situation in your life?
When you look for the lessons, blessings and gifts in this situation - you get creative - you problem solve; then this is going to set you up for greatness as you move forward in life.
Just imagine, that because of this, you are a better leader/mentor/boss.
Just imagine, that because of this, all areas of your life are better because you chose to take your pain of what you didn’t have in your senior year and turn it into an amazing opportunity.
Wow, I am so proud of you.
I can't wait to see what happens for you in the future.
Congratulations class of 2020.
You are amazing!!
I pray God blesses you abundantly,
Coach Diane Burton
