A Burden I Willingly Carry

Recently, I was studying from the book of Habakkuk. As I read about the book from my study bible, it said that “oracle” in Habakkuk 1:1 translates a common word for “burden.” The writer shared that once God gave a message to His prophets, it became a “burden”, until the prophet was allowed to share the message. He would be burdened with waiting for God’s time.

And, the prophets were also burdened, because, as you read and study God’s Word, the majority of the people refused to listen to the message. This caused a heavy heart for them, knowing it was a simple thing for them to do to save them. All they had to do was turn from their sinful ways and obey God.

As I read and studied, a thought came about different messages I have shared over the years – sometimes people are very receptive and sometimes they refuse to listen.

One of those messages is taking care of yourself physically to be your best spiritually. It’s a message of fueling your body with the real food God put on this earth. It’s a message of hope for those who are suffering from illness – both physical and emotional.

It’s a message that because it’s so simple, maybe people won’t or don’t believe it.

It’s a message that means taking responsibility for yourselves.

It’s a message the majority of people don’t hear from their doctor. And, if their doctor says the pill will take care of the illness, then why change the food going into the body?

Because I care about you, I’m going to be very honest and vulnerable. I choose to feel the burden of a heavy heart on a daily basis as I read about people begging for prayer for God to heal them. I feel the burden of a heavy heart as I hear prayer requests in our worship services.

I want to stand up and shout the good news that there’s hope when changes are made to what is put into the body. I know this to be true because I’ve seen it happen. Research proves it.

I also feel a burden because I know there are so many, because they are sick and/or dying, who aren’t going to get to do for God what they want to do. So many pray for healing because they want to keep working for the Lord, yet, now they can’t due to illness. Yes, we are all terminal; however, could we do more for the Lord if we took better care of ourselves? And, would we be better examples for the Lord when we show self-control in how we fuel our bodies?

Even though I am “burdened” with this message, I wait patiently for the right time to share with anyone who will listen. It’s not a burden I dislike, it’s a beautiful burden to carry. I pray about it, giving the burden to the Lord and asking Him for wisdom in how to share with others about taking care of their beautiful Masterpiece. I know He will put the right people in my path. I hope you are one of them.

What are you “burdened” with? Do you have a message you want to share with the world? I encourage you to keep sharing – the right people will hear.
